Introduction
Rupandehi district of Lumbini Zone comes under the State no. 5 of Federal Republic of Nepal and Western Development Region. This district is about 270 k.ms. south-west of Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. Rupandehi district has become successful to establish its own distinct industrial, commercial, historical, geographical, religious, archeological and cultural identity. The historical and cultural significance of this district is further enhanced because of being the down town of Lumbini, the holy birthplace of Lord Buddha, the apostle of peace, compassion and non-violence, location of winter palace of Mani Mukunda Sen, the past king of Palpa, presence of historical place Jitgadhi Fort built at the time of Nepal British war and also having drained by overflowing the Tinau river. Rupandehi district is situated in the panoramic lap of the Chure range and bordered by Palpa and Arghakhanchi on the north, India on the south, Kapilvastu on the west and Nawalparasi on the east. It is 100 to 1219 meter above from the sea level. The total area of this district is 1172 sq. Km. This district in extended to 83'30" degree longitude east and 27'20" degree latitude north. The total population is about 0.9 million. The whole district is having altogether seven Election Constituencies with One sub- metropolitan city, Five Municipalities and Forty-eight Village Development Committees (V.D.Cs).
Industrial Journey of Rupandehi District.
The industrial Journey of the district begins with the establishment of Mahendra Sugar Mill and Butwal Ghee Factory in 1920s. Now this District is filled with different industrial academies in course of its development as per with the pace of time. After the establishment of Butwal Technical Institute (BTI) and Butwal Industrial Estate, speedy development of industrialization is further increased. At the end of 2015, more than 9000 Cottage, Small, Medium and Large Industries were established in this district. After the full functioning of Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Bhairahawa, Private Industrial State in Siktahan and New Industrial Estate in Motipur, the district will definitely have recognition of as the best Industrial District of Nepal.
Establishment of Rupandehi Chamber of Industries (RCI).
Rupandehi Chamber of Industries was established in 1978 A.D.( 2035, Mangsir 15)with the initiation of some visionary senior industrialists. After the establishment and slightly development of industries in the district, the industrialists realized the requirement of an Organization which can raise their voices collectively for the protection, preservation and promotion of the Industries. In spite of having very close relation between Industries and Trade, they have been facing their problems time and again. As a result of the founder industrialists thought about the significance of an independent umbrella organization to solve the problems of industries, Rupandehi Chamber of Industries (RCI) was established. Since its inception, RCI has been working for the establishment, development and betterment of Industries introducing innovative ideas and technologies as par with the national and international standard.. RCI has been envisioning a road map along with Long term visions supported by annual working plans for the industrialization and sustainable Economic development of the District and hence of the Country.
